UKMLA Exam 2025 Complete Guide

🇬🇧 UKMLA Exam 2025 Complete Guide: Format, Eligibility, Stages & More

What is UKMLA?

The UK Medical Licensing Assessment (UKMLA) is an exam designed by the General Medical Council (GMC) to ensure all doctors entering practice in the UK meet a common threshold for safe medical practice, regardless of where they received their medical education.

Who Needs to Take UKMLA?

All medical graduates (both UK and international) who wish to obtain a license to practice medicine in the UK must pass the UKMLA.

UKMLA Exam Format

  • Applied Knowledge Test (AKT): A computer-based MCQ exam assessing medical knowledge.
  • Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment (CPSA): A practical exam testing clinical and communication skills (usually OSCE-style).

Eligibility Criteria

  • For international graduates: Must hold a primary medical qualification acceptable to GMC.
  • For UK students: UKMLA will be integrated within their medical school curriculum by 2025.
  • All applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements.

Registration Process

International candidates must create a GMC account and book their test slots through the GMC website. They should ensure all their documents (medical degree, ID, English proficiency) are verified before scheduling the test.

Test Centers

The AKT is conducted at multiple Pearson VUE centers worldwide. The CPSA is typically taken in the UK at designated GMC assessment venues.

Scoring and Results

Candidates must pass both components — AKT and CPSA — to be eligible for licensure. Scores are provided within weeks of exam completion.

Why Choose UKMLA?

  • Standardized assessment for all medical graduates entering UK practice
